Your greatest need
What is your greatest need? Lots of money, food, clean water, healing, forgiveness, a job, security, a dog, a pool, a house, a car, this virus to end, that once in a lifetime vacation, a gun, that special somebody, and the list of our potential greatest need goes on and on and on and on. It’s funny to note that often times our greatest need changes based on our current circumstances — have a job but lost a spouse, have a spouse but have poor health, have a big bank account but need a relationship healed. Yet, our greatest need remains the same.
What if I told you none of those items listed above or any of the other worldly needs you’ve thought of even come close to your greatest need. Would you believe me? Or are you in the process of building a case to prove one of these items is, in fact, your greatest need?
Nothing of this world comes close to meeting our greatest need. Work will one day become very unimportant, food and water will not be needed, and there will be no more need of hospitals. The need for security and shelter will be a thing of the past. Luxuries, hobbies, people, and items we treasure (all our perceived needs) will come to a crashing halt in a split second. Remember how quickly our lives have recently been disrupted by COVID-19? It was a quick and abrupt change, but not as quick and abrupt as a dreaded day that’s soon to come. This future day will make this temporary inconvenience seem like a trip to the beach.
You see friends, Judgement Day is going to come upon planet earth. On that day, none of our earthly treasure or pleasure will matter. I can assure you, all the treasure and riches on earth will not help us or save us on Judgement Day. Security bunkers and the greatest army on planet earth, armed with the latest and most advanced weaponry, will not be able to protect us and save us on Judgement Day.
So, Who is going to save us on that Great and Terrible Day (reference Joel 2:28 – 32 KJV if you are unfamiliar with Judgement Day)? None other than the LORD Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, who takes away sins. He will save His sons and His daughters. Did you know God has a perfect track record when it comes to fulfilling His promises? Every promise God has made has come to pass. Save those promises that are yet to be fulfilled, but you know with certainty His promises will be fulfilled. It’s just a matter of time because God honors His Word today just as He has all throughout time. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever – He is unchanging!
Do you know why Judgement Day is called the Great and Terrible Day? It’s great for those of us who are being saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, and it’s going to be the most terrible of days for those who have not repented and humbled themselves under Jesus’ divine grace.
One of my favorite scripture verses confirms this beautiful picture of the LORD saving His people. The first part of Zephaniah 3:17 reads, “The LORD your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save.” God is in our midst! Such comforting words in times like these. Not only do we have a Savior in the LORD, but we serve a God who dwells with us, Immanuel (Matthew 1:23). This is very comforting and reassuring. The second half of Zephaniah 3:17 reads, “He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Can you imagine our greatest need, The LORD who created everything, rejoicing over you with gladness, quieting you with His love, and rejoicing over you with singing? These words are too wonderful for me!
Make sure you meet your greatest need before Judgement Day dawns. In John 1:12, God’s Word promises, “But as many as received Him (Jesus), to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His Name.” Do you recognize Jesus as your greatest need? If so, receive Him today if you haven’t already and be welcomed into God’s family as His child.
